Island Park author B.K. Berrell releases new book

They say write about what you know. Island Park author B. K. Berrell took bits and pieces of his real life and wove them into a suspenseful story. That story, titled “A Tightening Noose,” has just been published, and Berrell has had his first two book signings.

“I was in the service for four years, stationed in Yuma, Arizona. It’s a great location; there is a whole lot of nothing out there,” he said. The empty desert provides some of the background for the story, which follows two characters that don’t know each other, both have violent pasts, living on the fringes of society. A reclusive combat veteran and a former prizefighter turned outlaw biker, they find themselves ensnared in a federal investigation. As their separate pasts emerge and are examined, they are drawn toward a conspiracy with global ramifications.

Berrell found promoting the book, not the writing, was the hardest part. “I just sit down and the words seem to flow,”he said.

So far he has had two book signings, at Dolphin Books in Port Washington and at Turn of the Corkscrew in Rockville Centre.

“Two people came to my first signing,” Burrell laughed, “but I think they enjoyed themselves.”
