Marie Fasig, a native New Yorker who is now a resident of Maple Pointe Assisted Living at 260 Maple Avenue, celebrated her 101st birthday surrounded by family and friends last month.

Born in Brooklyn on July 27, 1913, to parents of German descent, Marie worked first in a silk mill, then for Pfizer in Brooklyn manufacturing pills and capsules. She retired at age 70. She was married for many years to her husband, John. They had three sons.

After outliving her husband and all three sons, her family convinced her that assisted living would be a good option for her. She has been at Maple Pointe since 2010. She has three grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Maple Pointe has two other centenarian residents, ages 103 and 104.
