Molloy College held the second annual gala at the Madison Theatre, on Nov. 16, honoring The Hispanic Brotherhood of Rockville Centre Executive Director Margarita Grasing.

The gala began with cocktail reception at 6 p.m., a show at 7:30 p.m., and dinner at 9 p.m. Other honorees included Susan Gordan Ryan for the Lifetime Achievement Award and Mary Ann Tuttle, for the Distinguished Alumni Award.

According to the gala journal, the community leadership award is presented to an organization or individual who “provides leadership through mentoring and community programs; and who practices exceptional business principles while demonstrating the ideals of the Molloy College mission.”

Grasing has been the executive director of The Hispanic Brotherhood of Rockville Centre since 1984. The organization provides an afterschool tutorial program for students ages 5 to 12 and offers an employment program for teenagers ages 14 and up. They run a senior nutrition program three days a week and assist families with housing counseling, foreclosure prevention, and other employment, immigration and entitlement assistance.

This event featured a performance by Placido Domingo III, the son of one of The Three Tenors and a famous conductor. All of the money raised from the gala supports the College in an unrestricted capacity.
