Nemo blankets Rockville Centre

The Village of Rockville Centre weathered winter storm Nemo thanks to preparations that were made before the snow started to fall.

Village officials spent much of Friday in meetings to prepare for the storm. There were hundreds of tons of salt and thousands of gallons of calcium chloride stockpiled at the Department of Public Works headquarters.

The DPW has nearly 50 workers who were ready to work around the clock once the snow started. In the early stages of the storm, workers will be out salting village streets, starting with the main roads in the downtown area. Salting continues on village roads until the snow stops or accumulates to two or three inches.

Nemo dumped nearly a foot of snow on the community. But by approximately 11 a.m. on Saturday, the sun was shining again and every village road was cleared. According to Village Administrator Keith Spadaro, there were no problems with the electric department and no one lost power during the storm.
