RVCFD opens doors to the community

On April 24, the Rockville Centre Fire Department conducted a RecruitNY Open House at 103 Maple Avenue to attract new volunteers. The RVCFD Juniors were also on hand to invite community residents aged 13 to 17, to consider becoming a Junior Firefighter.

The Rockville Centre Fire Department was one of many across the state that opened the doors of its headquarters to give the community a chance to stop by, sit in the fire trucks and find out more about fire fighting.

One of the main goals of the day is to help increase the number of volunteers for fire departments. Over the last few years, due to various factors including the state of the economy, family and financial responsibilities and current volunteers aging, retiring, and moving out of state, there has been a reduction in volunteer first-responder numbers. However, Rockville Centre still has the largest volunteer fire department in the state.
