Her work has received numerous awards including those from the Seventh National Learning Congress Art Contest, the Oyster Bay Arts Festival, the Annual Art League of Long Island Art Exhibition and the Art League of Nassau County. In addition to her own work, she has inspired innumerable young people to explore and pursue art in her role as an art teacher.

Kathy has been married to her husband Brian Burns for 28 years and they have five wonderful children. On November 21, 2010 Kathy Burns became the recipient of a multi-visceral organ transplant during which she received four new organs. Over the past 6 ½ years she has waged an extensive battle of major medical issues requiring 31 surgeries.
