Mercy invites and encourages residents to participate in its Winter Wishes Blood Drive to support Long Island Blood Services on Wednesday, Jan. 9 between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. All donors will receive a fleece scarf and gloves, compliments of the New York Blood Center, to keep or re-gift to a charitable organization of their choice. Anyone between the ages of 17 and 75, in good health and weighs at least 110 pounds can donate blood. Healthy individuals older than 75 can donate blood if they present written permission from their physician obtained within two weeks of their donation. Donors should eat beforehand and bring reading glasses and ID with signature and know their Social Security number. Tree of Life Yoga
Central Synagogue of Nassau County, 430 DeMott Ave., is again sponsoring a fall session, with evening classes of yoga. The classes are open to yoga students of all levels. The Tree of Life Yoga will be offering a series of 12 classes Thursday evenings at 6:30 p.m. You may pay as you go for $15 a class. Members of the community are invited to participate. Phillips House Museum of the Village of Rockville Centre
28 Hempstead Avenue is open, free to the public, on Saturdays and Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m. and by appointment by calling 764-7459. The museum, a sea captain's house built in 1886, has period furnishings.
Permanent displays include kitchen tools, wood-working tools, toys, dolls and period glassware. The trustees are always interested in exhibiting collections of local residents. If you have one you would like to share with the community on a temporary basis, please call the above number.
