Skelos sentencing postponed until April

The sentencing of Dean and Adam Skelos on corruption charges has been delayed a month.

The office of U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara, which prosecuted the Skeloses, confirmed that the sentencing has been pushed back from March 3 to April 4. The request came from the Skeloses.

Dean and Adam Skelos were found guilty of multiple corruption charges in December. The pair were found guilty of using Dean’s position as Majority Leader of the state Senate to secure money and jobs for his son, Adam. They each face a maximum sentence of 130 years.

The conviction also instantly removed Dean Skelos from office and sparked a race to fill his seat. Democratic Assemblyman Todd Kaminsky is facing newcomer Republican Christopher McGrath to represent the district. Gov. Andrew Cuomo has set the special election for April 19.
