About eight inches of rain fell on Rockville Centre in the early hours of Wednesday morning. And while any flooding was brief and localized, the water damaged part of the village's electrical system, causing a blackout for more than 300 residents.

The storm water damaged an underground electrical box, blacking out nearly 400 homes and businesses near Maple Avenue. Village crews were working to repair the damage, and village spokeswoman Julie Scully said the village hoped to have service restored by midnight.
