Taking care of the needy and furry

Posted

Last month, the fifth grade students at St. Agnes Cathedral School took part in a special act of service. In honor of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals, students donated items to The Little Shelter in Huntington.

Each fifth grade class decorated a collection box with photos of their own pets and favorite animals. They designated three days during the month, “Furry Friends Friday,” as collection days.

Students donated supplies that the shelter will use to take care of the hundreds of animals in need. Bowls, beds, blankets, leashes, food, treats and toys were just a few of the items that were given. Some children even donated their snack money so that other supplies could be purchased.

This is the fourth year that St. Agnes Cathedral School’s fifth graders have taken part in this service activity. Students continue to learn the value of compassion, service, and appreciation for God’s creation.
