The unending work on Maple Avenue
Christina Daly/Herald
Workers have been tearing up Maple Avenue for months. Unmapped pipes and electrical lines have slowed the construction process.

To many, it seems like the construction work on Maple Avenue will never end.

The work has been going on since the spring, and it doesn’t seem it will be letting up any time soon.

According to Mayor Francis X. Murray, all of the work so far is part of Phase One of the Maple Avenue project.

“This looks like it is taking a very long time with little progress,” Murray said at a Board of Trustees meeting earlier this month. “The work in fact is moving along.”

Murray explained that the contractor that is doing the work has uncovered many pipes and electrical lines while digging — most of which were not on maps of the area. That means that the area has to be cleared out slowly and carefully so as not to damage anything, making the work take much longer.

But the work is ongoing. And one day soon, Maple Avenue will be clear again.
