A Few Clouds Couple arrested after string of car burglaries
Police look for man and woman who allegedly shattered windows, stole items
A woman parked in the lot behind Maple Avenue returned to her car on the night of Jan. 31 to find the passenger window shattered and her wallet and pocket book missing, according to Nassau County Police.
Among the taken items were credit cards and an undisclosed amount of cash, detectives said. Soon after, an unknown man and woman entered CVS — at 668 Sunrise Highway in Baldwin — and used one of the victim’s credit cards.
That same day, police said, there were other reports of damaged passenger windows to a 2017 Acura at 100 Hempstead Avenue and a 2013 Chevrolet Equinox on Ohio Street. Nothing appeared to be taken from the Acura, but a handbag containing a watch and gift certificate were reported missing from the Equinox.
An investigation found that a bluish-gray Nissan sedan was observed near each of the locations. Police arrested Dawn Goldstein, 29, of Elmont and Richard Alvarez, 37, of Valley Stream, in connection to the incident.
Both were charged with three counts of fourth-degree grand larceny, fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, two counts of third- and fourth-degree criminal mischief. Alvarez was charged with an additional count of third-degree criminal mischief and was scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court on Tuesday. Goldstein was previously arraigned on Feb. 3.
