Elizabeth Wallace, a former Rockville Centre resident who co-owned Century 21 Sherlock Homes for over 20 years, died on Feb. 21 at age 70.

Wallace grew up in the Bronx and moved to Rockville Centre in 1986, where she helped transform a small cape into one of the charming cottages in the village. She would go on to co-own her realty business with Judy Hart.

“Century 21 Sherlock Homes was like a family to anyone and everyone that worked there,” said her son, Andrew Souto during his eulogy. “The messages of the love, inspiration, compassion, and integrity from some of the realtors that have at one time worked with her, has been nothing short of amazing. She loved that office as if it was her second family.”

Souto said that his mother always instilled in all of her children and grandchildren that every person on this planet is created equal. She never tolerated bigotry, racism, sexism, chauvinism, or bullying of any kind. If she knew of someone who was struggling, she would send that person money or some type of help. For example, Wallace anonymously helped a friend of her children who was sick by occasionally sending him money to help pay the family’s medical expenses and always made sure he had something.

During Hurricane Sandy, Wallace hosted least 20 people because she only lost power for a few hours. Some of them stayed for several weeks.

“She loved it, and at that time she may have had only one bathroom,” said Souto. “She gave of herself unselfishly. Of this, she had no equal.”

When she was not working, Wallace loved to sing, dance, tend to her garden, laugh and make others laugh. Most importantly, she cherished her relationship with her sister and best friend, Joanne.

Wallace is survived by two other sons, Billy, and Richard, her daughter, Allison, and 10 grandchildren.
