Ellen L. Abrams, longtime Rockville Centre resident, dies at 74

Ellen L. Abrams, née Cooperman, of Rockville Centre, died peacefully on March 27 in the presence of her sons at Whisper Woods in Smithtown. She was 74.

Born in Brooklyn and raised in Rockville Centre, Ellen was the daughter of Irving and Shirley Cooperman, sister to older brother Stephen Cooperman and younger sister Lisa Dykstra, and lived in Rockville Centre for most of her life.

She graduated from South Side High School in 1961, and received her bachelor’s degree from Hofstra University. She taught first and second grade in Plainview, and was coordinator of volunteers for the Hospice Care Network in Westbury. In addition, she spent a great amount of time volunteering at the Mary Brennan Inn Soup Kitchen, and loved to travel to visit her grandchildren in Massachusetts and Colorado. 

Ellen will be affectionately remembered by her sons, Mark Abrams (wife Amy), Mitch Abrams (wife Kori); grandchildren Lauren, Emily, Preston and Brianna; and her sister, Lisa. Ellen’s brother, Stephen, predeceased her.
