The village of Rockville Centre will hold a special election on Tuesday, June 19 for the seat currently occupied by Kathy Baxley, the village’s deputy mayor, who told the Herald she plans to run for re-election.

Mayor Francis X. Murray appointed Baxley, who was sworn in last June. She replaced former Deputy Mayor Nancy Howard, who moved to Florida.

Those interested in running for the one-year term may receive further details from the clerk treasurer’s office on the first floor of Village Hall — at 1 College Place. All independent nominating petitions must be submitted by 4 p.m. on Tuesday, May 15.

The village is currently accepting applications for absentee ballots for the general election. Voting will be conducted at the John A. Anderson Recreation Center on North Oceanside Road from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Eligible voters wishing to cast their ballots must be registered with the Nassau County Board of Elections at least 10 days prior to the election.
