St. Agnes Cathedral was burglarized twice last month, most likely by the same man. Police reported that money was stolen out of the donation box at the Rockville Centre church, at 1 Quealy Place, on two separate occasions. The first burglary took place on Tuesday, Aug. 20, at approximately 5:30 p.m., according the Nassau County Police First Squad. The church was closed at the time and undetermined amount of U.S. currency was stolen after the donation box was pried open, police said. A week later, on Tuesday, Aug. 27, at approximately 4:30 p.m., police said the subject entered the main area of the church, which was closed, by going through a locked gate, and removed more cash from the donation box.

The man was captured on video entering the church and is described as white or possibly Hispanic, 5’8” or 5’9” with medium length brown hair. On the first day, detectives said he was wearing a purple T-shirt, light colored sweatpants and black sneakers; on the second day, he was reportedly wearing a red T-shirt, black sweatpants and black sneakers.

Detectives are requesting anyone with information to call Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
