Museum on display at West Hempstead's George Washington Elementary School

Fifth-grade students at George Washington Elementary School recently learned about natural resources. Accompanied by teachers, parents and local elected leaders, students got to host their “Living Resources Museum” on May 25. Students discovered that natural resources are raw materials we use for housing, clothing, transporting, heating and cooking. This includes the air that people breathe, the water they drink, the land they farm, and the space they use for living and recreation.
Students categorized natural resources into the following categories: renewable, nonrenewable, and perpetual resources. Then, they conducted their own research through their “Project Based Learning” assignment, where they worked in groups to figure out what to do if we run out of fossil fuel.
