Police: High Lawrence driver hits pedestrian at Rockville Centre intersection, takes off

Nassau County police arrested and charged Frank Onolfi, 28, of Lawrence, in connection with a hit-and-run that occurred at Sunrise Highway and Park Avenue in Rockville Centre on April 3 at 8:15 p.m.

Onolfi allegedly struck a 28-year-old pedestrian while under the influence of drugs, according to police. The victim suffered severe injuries to his head and body and was rushed to a local hospital.

Shortly after, a vehicle fitting witnesses’ descriptions was located at Sunrise Highway and Grand Avenue. A search of Onolfi’s car revealed eight bags of substance that police said they believed was heroin.


Onolfi was charged with second-degree assault, second-degree vehicular assault, leaving the scene of an accident, fourth-degree criminal mischief, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, reckless driving and driving while impaired by drugs.

Onolfi's attorney could not be reached for comment at press time.
