Rockville Centre couple wins Best Feature Film

The Rockville Centre film “Family Obligations” received major recognition earlier this month at the Long Island International Film Expo. The festival took place from July 12 to 18, with “Family Obligations” screening on the first day. The film took home the award for Best Feature Film at the awards ceremony on July 18, running up against four other titles. Winners were selected by a combination of audience ballots and a judging committee.

“It was really surreal to think that we were even nominated, let alone won,” said Kenneth Frank, director and writer of the film. “I feel like we had a great local crowd, and I think people really responded to our story.”

This festival focuses on local filmmakers and highlights the film and television industry on Long Island. Frank and his wife, Shawna Brandle, who produced the film, both live in Rockville Centre. The film was shot at various locations around Rockville Centre and the South Shore, including Golden Fortune, Unk’s Landromat and the Long Beach Boardwalk.

“When you’re working on something for so long, you lose perspective a little,” Brandle said. “So it was great to get that feedback from people outside.”

“Family Obligations” is now available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.
