Rockville Centre doctor delivering bundles of joy for 30 years

When Sarah Casella was expecting her first child in 2016, she scheduled an appointment with Dr. Edmund F. Tomlinson Jr., a local obstetrician of Horizon OB/GYN in Rockville Centre.

When Casella, a former Oceanside resident that now lives in Bayport, had her initial consultation with Tomlinson, she was stunned when he told her he delivered her years ago.

“I couldn’t wait to ask my mother if that was true,” said Casella. Sure enough, it was Dr. Tomlinson who brought Casella into the world on Nov. 29, 1991. “I thought if I came out okay,” she said, “I’m going with him to deliver my children.”

Even when Casella moved to Bayport, she said she wouldn’t consider seeing an obstetrician closer to home if she were to have a second child. “He is thorough, very approachable and reachable,” she said of Tomlinson. So when she conceived her daughter, Maci, it was Tomlinson, a resident of Rockville Centre who has been practicing obstetrics and gynecology in his hometown for 30 years and has served as vice-chairman of Obstetrics and Gynecology at South Nassau Communities Hospital, who delivered Maci this past June at the hospital’s Center for New Beginnings. “He always checked on me and cared for me,” she said. “I told him if he retires, I’m not having any more kids.”

Thankfully for Casella and his large practice, Tomlinson has no plans to retire. “I chose to be an obstetrician because of my passion to provide the expert care that life’s grandest and greatest moments deserve,” said Tomlinson, who with his wife, Staci, are the parents of two children. “I’m doing what I love.”

Dr. Alan Garely, chairman of Obstetrics and Gynecology at South Nassau and clinical professor of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Science at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, considers himself privileged to work with a talented and dedicated physician like Tomlinson. “He is a local institution and a tremendous physician,” Garely said. “It gives me great pleasure to work alongside Dr. Tomlinson and watch him care for generations of families in our community.”
