South Side among best NYS public high schools

South Side High School was among the 100 best public high schools in New York, according to a list by Niche.com, landing at No. 70 out of 1,180.

Niche.com, formerly known as College Prowler, releases such rankings annually, which are based on rigorous analysis of academic and student life data from the U.S. Department of Education, along with test scores, college data, and ratings collected from millions of Niche users.

South Side students had a 99 percent proficiency rating in both reading and math, according to Niche. The average graduation rate was 99 percent, and 18 percent are enrolled in AP classes. The average SAT and ACT scores, as submitted by Niche users, was 1220 and 28, respectively.

The No. 1 public high school in the state was Stuyvesant High School in Manhattan. A total of 30 Long Island Schools ranked in the top 100, as Great Neck South High School and Jericho High School cracked the top 10. Neighboring Oceanside High School landed a few spots ahead of SSHS at No. 66.
