Comedy star Amy Schumer, 1999 South Side High School graduate, a new mom

Amy Schumer and her husband, Chris Fischer, welcomed their son, Gene Attell Fischer, on May 5. Schumer, 37, who graduated from South Side High School in 1999, announced the birth of her first child on Instagram, posting a photo of herself on a hospital bed with her baby, as Fischer kissed her head.

“10:55 p.m. last night,” she wrote on May 6. “Our royal baby was born.” The baby was delivered a day before the child of England’s Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, Dutchess of Sussex.

A few days later, in another post of her holding her son, the comedy star shared some of her takeaways from pregnancy. “Women are the sh-t,” she said in the post. “Men are cool and whatever but women are f-cking warriors and capable of anything.”

The stand-up comedian has garnered more fame in recent years with the help of her sketch comedy series “Inside Amy Schumer,” which debuted on Comedy Central in 2013 and aired its final episode in 2016. She also wrote and starred in the 2015 film “Trainwreck,” receiving nominations for the Writers Guild of America Award for Best Original Screenplay and the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical, and starred in the film “I Feel Pretty” last year.

The birth comes after Schumer and Fischer got married in February 2018. Their son’s name appears to pay tribute to comedian and fellow South Side alum Dave Attell, who graduated in 1983.
