South Side High School held the Special Olympics New York Winter Fest Floor Hockey All-Star Tournament on Dec. 1.
The event, which South Side has hosted for a decade, featured 51 team athletes and 22 skills athletes participating in an exciting day of competition.
Members of the ACDS Thunderbolts, the Babylon Bobcats, the Commack Sharks and the Long Island Lions joined volunteers involved in South Side’s Athletes Helping Athletes program.
AHA has been designing and delivering educational programs for students, athletes, coaches, officials and administrators for 30 years to help families, schools and communities address complex social issues. The organization inspires leadership through sport while addressing complex social issues such as life-skill development, physical fitness, sportsmanship, inclusion and civility, fair play, substance abuse and violence.
Before the games began, South Side athletes Brian Heaney and Laura Zervas recited the Special Olympics Oath: “Let me win, but if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt.”
