South Side High School recognized all of its winter sports athletes who earned All-County honors and above in their respective sports at the April 5 board meeting.

The winter teams include boys and girls basketball, winter track, wrestling, gymnastics and swimming. Athletic Director Carol Roseto made the presentations and gave a brief statement on each student’s accomplishments during the season.

Senior shooting guard Brandon Grayson of the boys’ basketball team earned All-County honors for the second straight year as the Cyclones advanced to the Nassau County Class-A final. Teammate and fellow senior Ryan Prendergast was also named to the All-County team and both players competed in the Exceptional Senior Game on April 5.

Senior Jourdin Thomas of the conference-champion girls’ basketball team also claimed her second straight All-County selection and has been named to the All-Conference team in back-to-back years. Junior Jenna Lopez earned her first All-County berth.

Junior Katie Rosshirt was South Side’s only all-around gymnast this season and was named to the All-County team for the floor exercise. Her top score on the floor was a 9.25 against Plainview on Jan. 20. Despite being an eighth-grader, Erin Agoglia has been on the varsity team the past two seasons and was named to this year’s All-County team for the floor exercise. She also put up consistently high scores in the vault and beam.

The girls’ winter track team were led by freshmen Carly Woelfel and Kaitlyn Mohr and both capped their seasons with All-County berths. Woelfel was the county champion in the 3,000-meter run on Feb. 7 with a time of 11:03.51. Mohr finished third with a time of 11:07.78. Woelfel also earned All-County honors in the 1,500-meter race after placing third in the county championships with a time of 5:18.11. On the boys’ side, Tyler Wukitsevits was a All-County high jumper and finished third in that event during the county championships.

Wrestler Kyle Mosher was named to both the All-State and All-County teams. He placed fourth in the 138-pound class at the state championships and second in the county event. The sophomore was an All-American last year, a state semifinalist the past three seasons and an All-County athlete in each of his last four campaigns. He has a career record of 146-26.

Freshman swimmer Ryan Davidoff was named to the All-County team in the 200 and 500 freestyle events, as well as the 200 medley relay along with senior teammate Colin Mullooly. The four-man 200 medley squad, which also consisted of Kyle Bergin and Dylan Buschinski from Lynbrook High School, set multiple school records during the season and finished second in the county championships with a time of 1:42:38.

Mullooly also earned All-Conference status in the 50 and 100 freestyle events and, along with Davidoff, as a part of the 200 freestyle relay team.

In addition, the girls basketball, winter track, boys swimming and diving, wrestling and gymnastics teams were also recognized as scholar athlete teams by the New York State Public High School Athletic Association. To receive scholar-athlete team recognition, the squad’s average GPA for 75 percent of the roster must be greater than or equal to a grade of 90.
