The Club celebrates Thanksgiving

The Club, a social day program for seniors over 60 with cognitive (Alzheimer’s and other dementias) and physical frailties, served Thanksgiving lunch with the help of the Lions Club of Valley Stream to roughly 70 people, including members, families and caregivers at the St. Joseph School in Hewlett on Nov. 20.

Inside Mike Doyle Hall, Lions members served turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce and sweet potato pie, along with cookies and cake for dessert. DJ D-Official spun the tunes that got many dancing right after lunch.

New Horizons Counseling Center, which has nine outpatient clinics, including one in Valley Stream and two Far Rockaway, offers a range of programs and services to help people with chronic medical conditions often complicated by substance use and mental health disorders.

The Club, which is housed in St. Joseph School, provides fun, nurturing, stimulation, structure and supervision to its members, counseling center officials said. Support groups and individual counseling for caregivers are also available.
