The Marion & Aaron Gural JCC is offering the services of its Sustenance Hope Opportunities Place (S.H.O.P.), which includes the Rina Shkolnik Kosher Food Pantry and the assistance of the social work staff to help federal workers who have been furloughed because of the partial federal government shutdown that began on Dec. 22.

All our clients can access food monthly,” said Stacey Feldman, the Gural JCC’s associate executive director. “If they are in a crisis situation then they can shop more frequently. They can also access clothing , school supplies, cleaning and personal care items. Our social workers are available to guide them and help them cope with this situation. All free of charge.”

The S.H.O.P. is open to everyone in the Five Towns and all communities, JCC officials said. A food distribution is being planned for Monday, Jan. 28 at the Sustenance Center in Maple Plaza in Cedarhurst.

Gural JCC Chief Executive Officer Aaron Rosenfeld asks that anyone who would like more information to call (516) 234-6020.

In addition, The UJA-Federation of New York and the Hebrew Free Loan Society have established a pool of up to $5 million for federal workers who live in Nassau and Suffolk counties, New York City and Westchester County, who earn $40,000 or less per year.
