Hundreds of people gathered at the Friedberg JCC in Oceanside for the Senior Health & Beyond Expo, presented by Mount Sinai South Nassau and hosted by Herald Community Newspapers and RichnerLive on Nov. 3.

The event featured more than 50 vendors who offered a range of services in healthcare, insurance, fitness and financial and estate planning. Amy Amato, executive director of corporate relations and events at RichnerLive, addressed the audience and said that she hoped attendees could use the Expo as an opportunity “to better equip you with the knowledge to care for yourself and your loved ones.”

The hour-long panel discussion was kicked-off by comedian Howard Newman and the JCC’s Assistant Fitness Manager, Jackie Ruiz, who led a “movement session,” with exercises that can be done in a chair.

Keynote speakers, Dr. Clifford Feiner, and nurse Allison Anderson, representatives of Mount Sinai South Nassau, opened the panel discussion, speaking about eyecare and tai chi.

Guests also heard from Dr. Esther Fogel, of Comprehensive Audiology; Constantina Papageorgiou; a partner at Trusts & Estates and Elder Law at Vishnick McGovern Milizio LLP; Susan Capurso, the legacy doula at East End Doula Care and Lisa Charschan, director of adult services at the Friedberg JCC.

Charschan told attendees about the various programs that the JCC offers members, and Papageorgiou spoke on her expertise in elder law, including the importance of estate planning. Capurso endorsed her book, “Remember Me: The Story of my Life.”

Attendees received a goody bag courtesy of Grandell Rehabilitation and Nursing Center and Oceanside Care Center, as well as a senior savings coupon booklet with local deals.

The presenting sponsor was Mount Sinai South Nassau. Other sponsors included Cassena Care and refreshment/snack sponsor, Beach Terrace Care Center. Bagels were provided by Bagel Boss Café of Oceanside.

This was the last Senior Health & Beyond Expo of 2019, but keep an eye out for the return of the event in 2020.
