Concert series ends on a high note

The Seaford Public Library’s summer concert series wrapped up in style on Aug. 15 with Captain Jack performing near the Long Island Rail Road station. The band covered songs from famed Long Island musician Billy Joel.

Concert-goers spread out on blankets and chairs to watch the five-member band. The show was co-sponsored by the Seaford Wellness Council. Volunteers from the organization provided refreshments.

It was the third and final show of the summer. After the initial show was rained out on June 27, guests got to enjoy Steel Silk Band, a Long Island party group, on July 18, which covered hits from Donna Summer, Alicia Keys, Whitney Houston and more. Bon Journey played songs from both Bon Jovi and Journey on Aug. 1 in the library parking lot.

The Bethpage Federal Credit Union was the overall sponsor for the shows, and the Friends of the Library, Seaford Lions Club and Chamber of Commerce also co-sponsored individual shows.

“The positive response from the Seaford residents has been tremendous,” said Library Board President Peter Ruffner. “We are already planning for the summer of 2016 and will be exploring comedy acts and outdoor movie nights, too. The Seaford Library never rests on its laurels.”
