A Seaford woman has been arrested for her role in an accident that shut down Sunrise Highway for several hours on Monday morning and left four others injured.

Nassau County Police Department detectives arrested 19-year-old Leanne Gilzeane, of Seminole Avenue. According to police, a 22-year-old man was driving his 2005 Nissan eastbound on Sunrise Highway, near the Seaford-Oyster Bay Expressway, when he got into an argument with Gilzeane, who was in the back seat. Police say that she began to strike the driver, causing him to lose control of the vehicle and strike a utility pole.

An 18-year-old female passenger, who was sitting in the back seat, was ejected from the vehicle and into the roadway. A 17-year-old male on the back seat was partially ejected. They were both taken to an area hospital and listed in critical condition.

The front seat passenger, a 23-year-old male, was treated and released from the hospital. Gilzeane and the driver were also admitted for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The accident, which occurred at 3:45 a.m. on March 28, closed Sunrise Highway in both directions for several hours between Route 135 and Washington Avenue. The westbound lanes reopened by 7:45 a.m., and all lanes were open by 3 p.m.

Gilzeane was charged with second-degree reckless endangerment. She will be arraigned at a later date. The investigation is continuing.
