Fhoo Asian Bistro can truly rival the finest of its kind in every aspect. Experience plays a large part in this fact, as restaurateur Tom also owns the Xaga Sushi & Asian Fusion restaurants in Hewlett and Merrick, and Lumix Hibachi & Sushi in Lynbrook. At Fhoo, Manager Steve tends to every detail, and Executive Chef, Bill, supervises seven other sushi chefs.

Décor is exquisitely dramatic. Renovations of the site that formerly housed Jani took nearly two years. Notice each detail — glass encased waterfalls, an illuminated keyhole-shaped hallway leading to the cocktail lounge, lush white upholstery, and magnificent modern restrooms. Center stage is a 20-foot reclining Buddha, custom crafted and imported from China. Space is abundant, allowing accommodation for events for up to 180 guests.

Culinary presentations are beautiful, particularly the sushi. Most importantly, food quality is exceptional. Sushi-grade fish was ultra-fresh and of melt-in-your-mouth caliber. And service was seamless.

Influences from Japan, China and Thailand fill the menu, with plenty of sushi bar options. Soups, salads and starters range from $3 to $14. Sushi rolls are $5 to $17, and entrees, $13 to $50 (for Sushi & Sashimi for Two). Bento boxes are $19 to $22, and Asian fusion (cooked) entrees are $17 to $28. Desserts are $3 to $12.

Warm moist hand towels and steamy mugs of sunflower seed green tea were welcome starters for a chilly night. Bill’s special appetizer offered delicate cuts of raw tuna and salmon topped with lemon slices over cream sauce. Spicy tuna crackers were mini sandwiches of tuna, eel sauce and honey between seaweed wafers. Tuna and mango salad offered large cubes of both over mixed greens tossed with citrus soy onion dressing. Yellow tail with jalapeno, thin slices of both, was finished with ponzu sauce. Sashimi Appetizer, served in an iced, decoratively illuminated goblet, came with nine slices of assorted raw fish.
