Seaford Avenue to open one last time

Posted

Want to say goodbye to the Seaford Avenue School? The district will be opening the closed elementary school to the public on Saturday, May 2. The building and adjoining property will be sold to the Engel Burman Group, and is expected to be demolished later this year to make way for a 112-unit senior housing complex.

Superintendent of Schools Brian Conboy said that community members and graduates requested a final walk through of the building, which was last used as an elementary school in 1981, and has sat vacant since 2010.

Conboy said that before the public is allowed in, the district will remove any hazards, such as broken glass, but otherwise people will see the school “as is.”

The building will be open on May 2 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The school is located at the corner of Seaford and Waverly avenues.
