Seven Seaford High School athletes who will continue their sports at the college level next year made their commitment official at a Letter of Intent signing on April 15.

Surrounded by their parents, siblings and coaches, the athletes signed up to take part in a variety of sports at several colleges both close to home and far away. “It’s really a credit to not only our athletes, but our coaches and the entire Athletic Department,” said Tom Condon, Seaford’s athletic director. “It’s really gratifying to see that.”

Several of the athletes will play college lacrosse, including Dan Boulukos, Danny Connell, and Peter and Nick Couvaris.

Two of the three Couvaris triplets will be teammates at Hartwick College in upstate Oneonta. All three play for Seaford’s varsity team, but Peter and Nick’s other sibling, Tom, will attend Quinnipiac University.

Peter and Nick initially did not plan on attending college together. Nick, who is in his second year on the varsity squad, said that he had been recruited by Hartwick, while Peter applied after meeting the coach and seeing the campus.

“I’ve always liked lacrosse,” said Peter, who plans to study criminal justice. Nick added that he has not decided on an academic focus, but chose the school because of a wealth of majors to choose from.

Boulukos will be staying close to home, suiting up for Molloy College in Rockville Centre. The three-year varsity defender will study accounting in between lacrosse games. “It’s my favorite sport,” he said. “I’ve played since I was in first grade, and I always wanted to play in college.”

Connell will head to SUNY Maritime, in the shadow of the Throgs Neck Bridge. He has been on the varsity for three years, is a captain this year and was an All-County selection as a junior. “Ever since I started lacrosse, I had a passion for it,” said Connell, who got his start with the local Police Activities League. “I just liked the fast pace of the game.”
