Sign up for the Purple Ribbon Run

Registration is now under way for the Purple Ribbon Run, which will be held on Saturday, July 23 in Wantagh. There will be a half-mile fun run for children at 8 a.m., and the 5K run and walk starts at 8:30 a.m. The race start and finish is at the Forest Lake Elementary School.

The course is USA Track and Field certified, and electronic chip timing will be provided by Just Finish. Dri-fit T-shirts will be given out to the first 400 registrants. There will also be raffle baskets and post-race refreshments.

The race is organized by Wantagh High School senior Justin Rockitter, in honor of his grandmother, Susan, who died from pancreatic cancer. All proceeds from the race are donated to the Lustgarten Foundation, which funds pancreatic cancer research.

The registration fee is $20 by July 17, and $25 after. Awards will be presented to the top three male and female overall, student and Wantagh winners, and in each age group. For more information or to register, visit www.purpleribbonrun.com.
