The mall comes to Manor School

Posted

Who says you have to go to the mall to do your holiday shopping? Seaford Manor students were content to take care of their Christmas and Hanukkah needs in the comfort of their own school last week, as part of the gymnasium was transformed into the Snowflake Village.

There were tables throughout the gym featuring items sold by parents, including toys and handmade crafts. Children were able to shop for their parents, siblings, friends, grandparents and even their pets.

The second-grade classes sold their handmade crafts for $1 to $3, with the money going to charity. In the past, the classes have donated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Cohen Children’s Medical Center, the Ronald McDonald House and other facilities benefiting kids. Two years ago, money aided local victims of Hurricane Sandy.

Snowflake Village has been a tradition at the school for more than 30 years, said second-grade teacher Jean Aplustille, a graduate of Manor herself.

The boutique was open last Thursday and Friday during the day for students, and at night for families. It was organized by the PTA. Parents Donna D’Andrea and Ivy Finn organized the event. D’Andrea said that children took advantage of the opportunity to do their holiday shopping in a fun atmosphere.
