Who's on the ballot in Wantagh, Seaford, Levittown?

For the first time in three years, there will be a contested election for the Wantagh School District Board of Education.

With the ballot finalized on Monday, residents will pick two of three candidates when they head to the polls on May 17. All three have school board experience.
One-term incumbents Kera McLoughlin and Peter Mountanos are both seeking re-election and are running as a team. McLoughlin is a past president of Wantagh SEPTA, and has two children now in elementary school. Mountanos is a 2012 graduate of Wantagh High School and is a student at NYU.

Rounding out the ballot is Jean Quinn, who served on the board from 2007 to 2013 and was its president twice. The lifelong Wantagh resident previously worked as a special education teacher aide at the high school.

Because it is an at-large election, the two leading vote-getters will win three-year terms.

Six vie for three seats in Levittown

In the Levittown School District, there are six candidates running for three seats. Board of Education President Peggy Marenghi and Vice President James Moran are both seeking re-election.

Completing the ballot are former school board member Ed Powers as well as Christina Lang, Thomas Lonergan and Maria Xenios.

The top two vote-getters will win three-year terms. The candidate with the third-highest total will fill the unexpired term of Kevin Regan, who died in October. The winner of that seat will be sworn in immediately after the election and serve until June 30, 2018.

Uncontested election in Seaford

For the second year in a row, there will be an unopposed election in the Seaford School District. And, for the second year in a row, a Board of Education member will be departing.

With the deadline to run having passed on Monday, two candidates filed petitions. One is current school board President Bruce Kahn, who is seeking his third term. The other is resident Janice Baldwin, who would take over the seat being vacated by five-year member Jeanmarie Wink.

Both seats are for three years. The school board election will be held in conjunction with the budget vote on May 17.
