Why should we be rewarding illegal immigration?

For decades, the U.S. has failed to address one of its core problems: securing the nation’s borders.

In recent months, tens of thousands of frightened young children have come across the border, seeking shelter. This year, more than 52,000 unaccompanied minors have been apprehended trying to illegally cross the U.S.-Mexico border. These children are now being held in federal facilities, causing many to question America’s immigration policies.

The unsecure border has led to an increased crime rate and a booming drug trade, and has increased the risk of another terrorist attack. There have been many instances of people with ties to terrorist organizations from countries such as Somalia, Syria, Pakistan and Afghanistan crossing the border.

The country’s immigration issues have now been exacerbated by the new trend of unaccompanied children coming across the border. It has been reported that, in response to the crisis, the Obama administration awarded a $50 million contract to a charitable group to buy a Texas resort hotel and transform it into a 600-bed facility for juvenile illegal aliens.

Giving illegal immigrants a resort should not be a priority! American taxpayers are struggling to make ends meet, but illegal aliens captured at our border are treated to Olympic-size pools and free Wi-Fi. Taxpayers should be outraged.

Instead of just throwing money at the issue, President Obama needs to become more concerned about fixing the root causes. Right now, allowing illegal immigrants — especially children — into our nation, to use our services, is bleeding the country dry.

Let’s look at what’s happening in Lynn, Mass., a small town where, according to its mayor, Judith Flanagan Kennedy, the recent influx of immigrant children and families has put the municipality on the brink of bankruptcy.

“We have been aware of the unaccompanied issue for quite a while, and we were able to absorb a lot of these children early on,” Mayor Kennedy stated. “But now it’s gotten to the point where the school system is overwhelmed, our health department is overwhelmed, the city’s budget is being unsustainably altered.”
