Ambulance corps hosts EMS Fair

Posted

The Wantagh-Levittown Volunteer Ambulance Corps held its second annual EMS Fair on May 20.

More than 100 Wantagh, Seaford and Levittown residents attended the event, held at Island Trees Middle School, which  celebrated National Emergency Medical Services Week. WLVAC has served the area for more than 60 years.

The EMS organization was founded in 1956 to help residents in dire situations. The members of the volunteer group are trained in both in CPR and paramedic care.

Volunteers welcomed local folks to the educational event, giving ambulance tours and teaching CPR. The fair, designed to inform community members about WLVAC’s services, featured safety lessons for children and teens.

The fair featured the Teddy Bear Clinic, at which children learned the basics of bandaging, first aid and calling 911. Participants drove a miniature version of the WLVAC response vehicle at another activity, called Race to the Rescue. Children also competed in the First Aid Relay Race.

Corps members offer residents Vial of Life kits and blood pressure screenings. Youngsters also had to chance to play on bounce house and craft.
