Cedarhurst car crash results in DWI arrest

Three people, including the driver, were severely injured in a one-car crash that occurred at the intersection of West Broadway and Bayview Avenue in Cedarhurst 2:19 a.m. on Nov. 21, police said.

Keyon Mayweather, 20, of Shore Front Parkway, Arverne, the driver of a red four-door 2016 Nissan Altima was arrested for allegedly driving while intoxicated after the car, which had five occupants struck a pole, according to police.

One man seated in the back of the vehicle suffered lacerations, with skull and spine fractures; another man seated in the front suffered spinal fractures. Both were taken to the hospital. Mayweather suffered a possible neck injury and was taken to another local hospital.


The two other passengers were unharmed. The vehicle was impounded for brake and safety checks.

Mayweather was charged with driving while intoxicated and two counts of vehicular assault. Police said he will be arraigned when it becomes “medically practical.”
