The historic renovation of the Marine Dining Hall on the second floor of the Jones Beach West Bathhouse has garnered an award for the engineering firm who performed the work.

H2M architects + engineers, based in Melville received the Platinum Award from the Ny American Council Of Engineering Companies (ACEC) for its “mindfulness and the implementation of sustainable design features throughout the renovation.”

The designers of H2M were tasked with modernizing the marine dining hall while keeping its historic significance. According to the firm, the adjacent lobbies were refurbished, accessible bathrooms added, LED lighting and air conditioning systems incorporated and new ductwork and plumbing piping installed in inconspicuous spaces to avoid destroying character-defining spaces, features, and finishes.

The Jones Beach West Bathhouse has been in continuous operation for more than 85 years, serving millions of visitors each season. H2M is a full-service consulting and design firm, celebrating 85 years in business. The renovation was part of a $65 million project to refurbish the park, beginning in 2014.

H2M architects + engineers (H2M) submitted a total of eight projects this year. Submissions are judged on complexity, innovation, and value to society. Winning projects receive silver, gold, platinum, or diamond awards. The ACEC NY hosted its 51st annual Engineering Excellence Awards gala on April 7 at the Hilton Midtown in NYC.
