The "Teddy" award goes to an Iavarone brother

Joe Iavarone of Iavarone Brothers Quality Foods in Wantagh is the recipient of the 22nd Annual “Teddy” Roosevelt Achievement Award.

The award is presented on behalf of State Senator Carl Marcellino and the South Syosset-Woodbury Republican Club. The honor recognizes those persons “who quietly and diligently sacrifice their time, serve their community, and help those in need are deserving of our appreciation and public acknowledgment,” according to the group.

Joe and his family are long standing supporters of the Wantagh Community and numerous youth programs, including UCPN, March of Dimes, Autism Speaks, Angelina Iavarone Scholarship, St. Edwards, Juvenile Diabetes Research and the Foundation for Sight & Sound & Children International.

He is an active supporter of the Wantagh Chamber of Commerce where he served as a trustee for several years. He was Co-Chairperson of the “Taste of Wantagh” event and a recipient of Wantagh Chamber’s “Good Guy,” “Small Business Person,” and “Town Beautification” awards. He is also a member of Giovanni Caboto Son’s of Italy Lodge, and recipient of its 2014 Son’s of Italy Humanitarian Award.

Joe joined the family business in 1984, opening his first store in Glen Cove. In 1999, Joe and his family opened their Huntington location and finally in 2004, settled into his current location in Wantagh — with his Nephew, Christopher.

The Teddy Award will be presented on Thursday, September 13, at the group’s annual dinner from 7:00 pm to 11:00 pm at The Woodbury Country Club.
