Calhoun joins hands against cancer

Posted

Hundreds of people, most of them students, came together on Saturday, April 24, at Calhoun High School for Relay For Life, the American Cancer Society’s signature fundraising event. Forty-six teams of people collected more than $77,000, according to the ACS, and also took part in nighttime walks, candlelight vigils and other activities.

Some walked to support individuals with cancer, and others walked in tribute to a loved one who lost his or her life to cancer. Many walked to show their solidarity with people with cancer and support for improvements in medical science to treat and defeat the disease.

The event ran from 4 p.m. to 6 a.m. the next day. There were relay races on the Calhoun track, a musical performance from Merrick pop star Robbie Rosen, karaoke, kickball, board games, raffles, zumba and other fun-themed activities to keep everyone entertained.
