Changes to parking regs on Atlantic

Village trustees acted on a brief agenda followed by public comments at Monday’s board meeting.

The trustees approved a $461,368 payment on a 2014 contract for road resurfacing project, set a public hearing for July 13 to consider changes in the Village Code relating to maintenance of premises and amended traffic regulations to prohibit stopping or parking a vehicle on the north side of Atlantic Avenue west of Main Street for 158 feet. The old distance had been 208 feet.

Public Comment

Frank Grossman questioned why the audit for the 2013 financial records was not yet complete. Village officials said there was a change in auditing firms and some staff members assisting with the audit became ill and could not provide information on a timely basis.

Kevin McKay complained of problems he encountered in trying to park in handicapped spaces at the Recreation Center. “I find it difficult to get into the Recreation Center when people park in a loading zone or in handicapped spots. People picking up kids park in handicapped spots,” he said.

Police Chief Miguel Bermudez said efforts would be stepped up to correct the problem.
Resident Ed Dubich complained of seeing several teenaged boys and young adults dressed inappropriately, wearing their pants very low below the waist. Bermudez said there was nothing that could be done unless nudity was involved.

In closing statements, Mayor Robert Kennedy reminded the public about the fireworks show Thursday evening at the end of the Nautical Mile, and of the “Movies by the Bay” nights each Friday evening from July 10 to Aug. 24.
