It was a landslide victory for Ed Fare and his United Community Party running mates on Tuesday. Fare received three-quarters of the vote in the race for mayor against Citizens Independence Party candidate Joseph Margolin.

“It feels fantastic,” Fare said on election night. “The new United Community Party, the team we’ve put together, is the team for the future. We’re not going to forget where we came from.”

Incumbent trustee Vincent Grasso also won big, as did Dermond Thomas. They defeated Carol Crupi and Michael LoCascio who ran on the Citizens Independence Party line.

Grasso said that the United Community Party candidates are forward looking, and have ideas and a plan that will make Valley Stream a great place to live. “That message really resonated with voters,” Grasso said.

Thomas said he is grateful to the voters for giving him the opportunity to serve the village. “I’m going to do everything possible to make this the best place it can be,” he said.

Margolin congratulated the winners and said he will now turn his attention to creating the Valley Stream Community Association along with Crupi. He said they will also continue their fight to get the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s flood maps repealed in Valley Stream.

“I’m very grateful to the people who voted for me,” he said, “and to the people who worked very, very hard on my campaign.”

Village Justice Robert Bogle ran unopposed and was re-elected for his seventh term. “This is one of the finest slates of running mates I’ve ever had,” he said.
