Organizations around Wantagh and Seaford are showing their scary side this month with a myriad of Halloween-related events and activities. Whether it be parties, presentations or trick-or-treating, Wantagh and Seaford residents are getting ready for the spookiest day of the year. Little kids and adults alike can get involved in the festivities being held this October.

An annual tradition of the John Theissen Children’s Foundation is the Freaky 5K. This is one of the foundation’s prominent fundraisers that supports its mission of helping children in need. It is being held this year on Oct. 19 at 8:30 a.m. The fast and flat 5K will start at its Family Fun Center at 1881 Wantagh Ave. and end next to Hemmingway’s restaurant on the same street. In addition to cash prizes for the first, second and third place winners, everybody registered will have their name entered in a post-race drawing for a chance to win from an assortment of prizes.

There will also be medals given out to the winners in each age group starting at 14 and a $100 cash bonus for the top male to complete the race in under 16 minutes, and the top female to complete it in under 18 minutes.

The Freaky 5K will also feature a “Fun Run” for children 10 and under in which each participant will receive a medal and goody bag. Registration for the “Fun Run” is $7. Pre-registration closed on Oct. 15, but those interested can still register the day of the race, between 6 and 8 a.m., for $25. For more information, visit the foundation’s website at www.jtcf.org.

Other Halloween festivities will occur throughout Wantagh and Seaford, including at both public libraries. The Wantagh Library will be hosting an Edible Spooky House program on Monday, Oct. 27 from 6 to 9 p.m. This family-oriented event will also run alongside the library’s Trick or Treating program where people all ages can visit the library and collect goodies. The Seaford Public Library will also hold celebratory events including costume party story hours the week leading up to Halloween, and a visit from Candy the Clown on Oct. 29.

The month of October isn’t complete without Halloween parties, which there will be plenty of this year. This Saturday, Tackpausha Museum in Seaford will be having a Halloween party from 1 to 4 p.m. This will feature presentations on creepy creatures and nocturnal animals, in addition to crafts, games and refreshments.

On Oct. 25, Kidville, which recently opened on Wantagh Avenue, will also be hosting a party to celebrate Halloween. This will include arts and crafts, trick or treating, and a Halloween concert by Kidville’s own Rock and Railroad band.

For an older crowd, Mulcahy’s in Wantagh will be having a Halloween double header on the nights of Friday, Oct. 31 and Saturday, Nov. 1. This will feature music, dancing, $2,500 in cash prizes and an open bar and buffet from 8 to 11 p.m., all for $30.

Be sure not to miss out on any of the festive events going on in Wantagh and Seaford this harvest season.
