From the Editor

Hello, Wantagh and Seaford

Posted

Let me start off by saying, it’s great to be here. My name is Andrew Hackmack and I am the new editor of the Wantagh and Seaford Herald Citizen.

I am new to covering the Wantagh and Seaford communities, but am not new to the Herald, nor to community journalism. For the past seven years, I was editor of the Valley Stream Herald, where I reported on a village, four school districts and dozens of clubs and organizations.

When I was offered the opportunity to begin covering Wantagh and Seaford, I welcomed it. I do have some familiarity with the area. While growing up, I regularly visited my aunt and uncle in Wantagh, and last year I got my cat from the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter on Beltagh Avenue. As an avid bike rider, I would often take the trail from Bethpage to Massapequa, then head off and ride around the streets of Seaford.

As many of you know, the Herald is still in its infancy here. Many of you are familiar with the Wantagh/Seaford Citizen, which served the communities for a long time and many ties to that paper’s legacy still exist with us.

My vision for the Herald Citizen is simple. Every week I am looking to create a well-rounded newspaper that touches on the many facets of Wantagh and Seaford, including schools, government, clubs and organizations, businesses and human interest stories. I want the papers to be rich in both stories and photos. I want it to include news that matters to you.

But I can’t do it alone. In addition to the Herald staff of reporters and photographers, we need you, the residents of Wantagh and Seaford to be a part of this paper. Call or email and tell me what stories you would like to see in the paper. Share your ideas with me.

If you are having an event, send me information for our calendar page, the Citizen Circuit. We are happy to promote the many great programs and activities that are happening in Wantagh and Seaford.

The Neighbors in the News page is your chance to share your news. Wedding, engagement, birth and anniversary announcements are welcome. Did you win an award, get a promotion at work or get named to the dean’s list at college? Send it in and include a photo if you’d like. These items are published for free.
