Island Park Emergency Information

Island Park is ready for the snow, according to Chief Anthony D’Esposito. The Village is declaring a state of emergency, so it will be eligible for state and federal funding, should that becomes necessary.

The Fire Department has all of the trucks gassed up and ready, all have snow tires, and the two large five-ton vehicles are on standby should they need to do a technical or high angle rescue.

Ambulances will be going to South Nassau Communities hospital, which has implemented the Hospital Incident Command System. Hospital spokesman Damian Becker all backup systems are in place. They have performed a level one critical supplies inventory, ensuring they have enough food for 96 hours. The pharmacy, blood bank, and non-perishables are all stocked, generators are fueled and ready, and they have a full emergency staff. Becker says they have space for 100 staff members to stay overnight. In addition they are in touch with the Nassau County Office of Emergency Management.

Members of the Island Park Village Board and the Fire Department were notified the worst of the coastal flooding would be n the north shore.

In addition PSE&G is ready, but hoping the temperatures stay low. Low temperature snow weighs less than wetter high temperature snow, which means fewer snapped lines.

D’Esposito says they have a new service that shows the fire department weather and utilities by zip code, so they can see who does not have power.
