Anthony P. D’Esposito, of Island Park, was appointed to the 4th Councilmatic District by the Hempstead Town Board on Tuesday, filling the vacancy left by current Town Supervisor Anthony J. Santino.

“Anthony P. D’Esposito is a dedicated member of the Town of Hempstead community, with a wealth of experience in leadership and service to his fellow residents,” said Santino, who inducted D’Esposito as councilman. “I am confident that Councilman D’Esposito will be an exceptional public servant and a tremendous asset on the Hempstead Town Board.”

The 4th Councilmatic District of the Town of Hempstead includes: East Rockaway, Hewlett, Island Park, South Hempstead, Oceanside and Rockville Centre and portions of Baldwin, Cedarhurst, Lynbrook, Malverne, Valley Stream and Woodmere.

“I am honored to join with Supervisor Santino and the entire Hempstead Town Board to serve the nearly 770,000 residents in America’s largest township,” said D’Esposito. “I look forward to continuing the great work this board has done to make the Town of Hempstead such a great place to live, work and raise a family.”

D’Esposito served as a New York City Police Department Detective, making more than 600 arrests in connection with murders, shootings, assaults, bribery and possession of firearms in his career. He is also a former chief of the Island Park Fire Department and served as Public Information Officer for the Village of Island Park.

“I served the residents of the 4th Councilmatic District for many years,” Santino said. “And I know that Councilman D’Esposito will carry on the great legacy that the town and 4th District residents have built together.”
