Kaminsky gets our nod in the 20th A.D

Long Beach resident Todd Kaminsky’s enthusiasm — and his ability to serve the 20th Assembly District — are undeniable. At 36, his record as a federal prosecutor who has handled public corruption cases is impressive, and we believe he would fight against corruption and bring more accountability not only to Albany, but to the district.

At a recent debate in Long Beach against his Republican opponent, 41-year-old Avi Fertig, Kaminsky clearly showed that he had a better feel for the district’s needs, and demonstrated the kind of confidence and aggressiveness that it takes to get things done.

Assemblyman Harvey Weisenberg — who has endorsed Kaminsky — has served the Assembly well for a quarter of a century, and we believe Kaminsky would bring a renewed sense of energy, urgency and optimism to Albany.

With regard to the Hurricane Sandy-shuttered Long Beach Medical Center, Kaminsky said that if elected, he would make sure that the bulk of the nearly $180 million the Federal Emergency Management Agency has pledged to South Nassau Communities Hospital would be used to establish a hospital on the barrier island. He has pledged not only to fight for a hospital and a 911-receiving emergency department in Long Beach, but to address what many describe as a growing heroin “epidemic” in the community, to focus on domestic violence and support women’s rights, and to lobby for adequate state education aid and fight against unfunded mandates.

Kaminsky is opposed to a proposed liquid natural gas terminal off Long Beach, but wants to invest in wind and solar energy, and protect the Lloyd Aquifer from any effort by New York City to tap it, which could lead to saltwater intrusion.
