Keep Fr. Bill
To the Editor:
The parishioners from Our Lady of Peace parish would very much like to appeal to the Diocese of Rockville Centre to allow the Rev. Bill Breslawski to remain at our parish as the pastor, and much more importantly, our spiritual leader. The Diocese has a rule that priests can be assigned to a church for a limit of two six-year terms. Breslawski’s second term is up in June.
During the darkest days of Our Lady of Peace history, we received the man, Father Bill, who unselfishly made a commitment to the parish to help us heal our wounds. This extraordinary man, by his loving and caring ways, has bonded this Lynbrook village economically, socially and, most of all, spiritually.
I know my faith was challenged when Father Larry Penzes was shot and killed in the church by a gunman in 2002, and now it’s Father Bill who gets me through each anniversary of 9/11. I know that’s a little selfish, but it’s the truth.
This parish has suffered enough. Please allow our Father Bill to stay. I ask all parishioners and everyone else who has been touched by Father Bill’s goodness to contact the Diocese to let our voices be heard.
