Michael Mirotznik, an East Meadow-based attorney and East Meadow High School alumnus, was appointed last week by County Executive Ed Mangano as the chairman of the NuHealth board of directors.

A partner at Mirotznik and Associates, LLC on Hempstead Turnpike, Mirotznik, 48, now lives in south Bellmore with his wife and two children. He replaced Craig Rizzo on the board of directors, who served as chairman for four years before his March resignation.

The NuHealth System manages the operations of the Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, A. Holly Patterson Extended Care in Uniondale and a network of family health centers.

Mirotznik graduated from Brooklyn Law School in 1991, according to a press release issued by NuHealth, and obtained his undergraduate degree from New York University in 1987. Mirotznik specializes in civil, criminal and medical malpractice litigation. His professional court admissions include the Bar of the State of New York, the U.S. District Court and the U.S. Supreme Court.

“It is an honor and privilege to serve as Chairman of the NuHealth Board of Directors,” Mirotznik said in a written statement. “I am excited to join the talented leadership and believe that, working together with the board and the administration, we can make a difference in advancing the mission and ensuring fiscal stability.”

Mirotznik serves as a vice president of the Jewish Lawyers Association of Nassau County and is a past president of the Nassau Lawyers Association of Long Island.

Dr. Victor Politi, the president and CEO of NuHealth, who replaced Art Gianelli in January, said Mirotznik “has deep roots in the East Meadow community and his experience and enthusiasm will serve him well during this transformative era in health care delivery. I have no doubt that he will continue the path that Mr. Rizzo had set for the NuHealth System.”
